Bumless in Bredagh
Yep, I'm pack home after a few days in Donegal Town. It's about an hour and a half away from here so, far enough to feel that we'd been away from home, close enough to still be near the hospital etc. And I did need it, albeit briefly as I had a bout of tummy travel that left me with both ends burning. Still, it's settled up now. Rich food in the hotel probably the problem.
So, fill you in soon - I had to cut down for a few days and saw more fat disappear from my rear disappear. Update you soon.

So glad you are back, and glad, even though sick, you enjoyed your time away. I will tell you, traveling in a car seems to make me worse. Have no clue why.
Got to get out sometimes though, especially when not used to ever being in..
Food can be such a comfort, yet with this issue, such a source of pain. Not worth the trouble much of the time.

Traveller's tummy always does tend to hit at inopportune moments... hope all is now well.
Am writing this from my sister's house in Birmingham. Came back to England for a week so she and her husband could have a few days' holiday. My father lives with them and is getting too old to stay alone. Though he insists he isn't
Such a beautiful garden here and so different from Barcelona - green and birdsong and all the flowers. Dark red roses on the tree my father lovingly brought with him from his when he moved here. My mother's favourite and smelling so deep and sweet, like roses used to.
Last night I was trying to take photos of the moon above the trees, nearly full. Then when I came in thought I'd write to you.
I looked to see where you live and found a wonderful web (Movilleinishowen)with old photos, one an old postcard with a trail of moonlight on the sea. It looks like a beautiful place. You're lucky.
Then I found the story of Paddy Roe who came to fight in the Spanish Civil War and it got too late to write.
The week before I came I was in the hills above the Ebro river with two friends, exploring old, abandoned trenches from the war, looking for bullets and lost metal from the guns. Sunlight and silence, the young lives lost. Hope for the dream they fought for.

I'm sorry to say that I have some sad news.
Brian's condition has deteriorated rapidly; Lisa, Darren and I drove up to Letterkenny General Hospital this afternoon when we heard the news. We had a few hours with Terri and Matthew (Brian's wife and 7 year old son), and a few minutes with Brian.
Brian now has only a very short time left, and Terri is already underway with the funeral arrangements. Thankfully he is comfortable and not in any pain; his eyes flickered a little in response as we spoke to him.
Perhaps if you have any comments you could post them here, and I'll see that they are passed on to Terri. If you'd prefer you can email any messages to me directly: wmthompson-at-btinternet.com
I am sure you'll remember the family in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.

Dear Brian and family,
I can only apologise for not contacting you sooner. After I heard the news I guess I thought you would have enough notes of sympathy. Not to say that my thoughts where not with you.
Having worked with you for close to four years, I can honestly say that I have never met a more genuine and talented person in or out of this business.
I am also so delighted that your talents more recently where put to much better use with your published work and amusing us all with your own take on life. I always thought you where wasted in advertising.
You where always someone I looked up to and still do as I have rarely seen such strength of character in any walk of life. It is a pleasure to know you and sorry to go on but as you know I was never a copywriter.
Please take it for granted that my thoughts are with you and your family, all of whom I'm sure, don't need me to remind them of your qualities as a man and father.

Sorry to relate that at 4am today the world has lost a caring husband, a loving father and a wonderful human being.
Although it was inevitable, Brian's death is no less upsetting for those that knew him.
Whether it was socially, through work or as a result of this blog, Brian kindness and humour has touched a huge number of people.
Brian, even though you will never get to read these words, I hope you knew the enormous affection that everyone had for you.
My thoughts are with you Terry and Matthew.
Terry, the strength and compassion you showed when dealing with Matthew was nothing short of incredible.
Matthew, your parents have done an amazing job at raising such a fine son - I hope you can find some comfort in the fact that your Father was so universally loved and respected.
I hope we all be influenced one last time by Brian and follow his example of "trying to drain the sweetness out of every second".

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Brian in GCAS. He had such an enviable talent for creative writing. Brian was a wonderful person to know. A great character with a lovely sense of humour. It's so hard to believe he is no longer with us.

I worked with Brian for quite a few years while at GCAS. I'm proud to have known him, both as a brilliant, talented colleague and as a down-to-earth good guy to have as a friend. We shared much of the same tastes in books and movies and I continue to be indebted to him for the enjoyment his recommendations have brought me.
Brian had a wealth of creative and writing talent but, refreshingly, he had none of the ego that often accompanies such talent - it was always a pleasure to be in his company.
Like all of Brian's circle of friends I was shocked and saddened by the awful news yesterday, I had hoped to get in touch with him on this blog but, unfortunately, I had not realised how short a time Brian had left.
I will greatly miss him.

I decided today to post a message to Brian and let him know i was thinking of him. After reading this blog for a while i chose today to let Brian know i was watching from afar. I worked with Brian a few times in a recording studio in Belfast and we had good times. Brian gave me a CD of Martin Simpson a fantastic folk guitarist, i was listening to it today looking at my new baby son and my thoughts turned Brian and our discussions on music and shit.
I am deeply saddened by this news and my thoughts go out to his nearest and dearest.
